"TONED" gawd that word is annoying :)
"TONED" just means muscle... without too much fat on it. How to get toned? Lift weights to build up the muscle, and diet w/cardio to shed off some fat. Its not rocket science, but most people don't find it too fun either, thus the very few walking around looking "TONED"
Paleo is good only if someone enjoys that way of eating. Calorie/portion control tends to be more enjoyable as it is more flexible.
What does your wife LIKE to do? Answering these types of questions for someone that is not the ASKER is quite difficult.
Working out really isn't any different for women than it is for men.

You have no idea how happy I am to finally see a woman say that!!! The only things worse than "toned" is "man arms!" My wifes family ALL believe by lifting wieghts you're going to get man arms! It pisses me off to no end!

I have nothing close to man arms even NOW. Of course I DO like a much more muscular female build that probably your average American, but NO ONE is going to just wake up one day MASSIVELY HYOOJE on accident LOL.
I mean I worked as hard as I could to get as big and muscular as I could and FINALLy two years later, I look muscular. Women should train to get as big as they can, and if they EVER get to a point that they don't want to get bigger, THEN they can tone it down.
